AIG burial insurance
AIG no longer runs its own US life business. It was spun out as Corebridge Financial, and an AIG-branded life policy is written on American General Life paper.
Rating read from AM Best on 2 September 2026. AM Best calls A excellent: a strong ability to meet obligations to policyholders. How we check ratings.
The verdict
A reasonable underwriter with a genuinely more forgiving appetite than the strictest carriers. The thing worth knowing today is that the rating carries an under review status with a developing outlook, which is not a warning but is a fact almost no comparison page mentions.
We do not represent AIG
This is an editorial review. We hold no appointment here and earn nothing if you buy one, which is exactly why we can be straight about it. The carriers we can actually write are listed here.
What is good and what is not
In its favour
- More lenient on health history than several A rated competitors
- Recognisable name
- Level benefit available for applicants who pass
Against it
- Rating currently under review with a developing outlook
- The brand and the underwriting company are no longer the same business
- Corporate restructuring has made the product line harder to follow
How it treats your health
Simplified issue with a knockout list, positioned more leniently than the strictest carriers. Good for a health history that has caused a decline elsewhere.
What it actually sells
Simplified issue whole life for final expense, written on American General Life paper.
The waiting period
No waiting period on the level tier, with graded options below it.
This is the single most misunderstood thing in this market, and it is where most people get sold the wrong policy. Our full explanation is in burial insurance with no waiting period.
What moves the price
Age, sex, tobacco, face amount, state and underwriting tier.
Why there is no price on this page
We hold no rate tables, so any premium printed here would be invented. On a licensed site that is a compliance problem rather than a helpful touch. The honest number comes from running your age, state, health answers and coverage amount against the 25+ companies the agency can write, which takes a few minutes.
See what AIG would actually cost you
Six questions, about a minute. We run them across every company we can write, including this one where possible, and come back with real prices. A typical burial runs $15,395 once the cemetery is included, so that is the number worth covering.

Questions people ask about AIG
Is AIG life insurance still AIG?
The US life business is now Corebridge Financial, and policies are issued by American General Life. AIG the parent no longer runs it.
What does an under review rating mean?
AM Best has flagged the rating for reassessment, shown with a u modifier and a developing outlook. It is not a downgrade and it does not change what the company owes on a claim. It does mean the grade could move in either direction.
Compare it against the rest
One carrier is never the answer for everybody, because they disagree about health. The full scorecard shows every company we can write, with the verified AM Best grade and the date we read it.
