Three things this directory does that others do not
Every price carries its age
A 2014 cremation price presented as current is worse than no price, because a family arrives with a number in their head and concludes they are being overcharged. Where a source published a date we print the date. Where it did not, we say we recorded the figure in September 2026 and leave you to judge it.
Nobody can pay to rank higher
Listings are ordered by whether we hold a price and then alphabetically. There is no paid placement, no sponsored row and no charge to a funeral home for appearing, being corrected or being removed. If that ever changes, it will be disclosed on this page before it changes anywhere else.

The bill this is all measured against
A traditional burial with a viewing averages $8,300 at the funeral home. The cemetery then bills separately for the plot, opening and closing the grave, the vault and the headstone, which takes the real figure to about $15,395. Where does this directory get its funeral homes?
State licensing board rosters in every state that publishes one, the NFDA member directory, the Parting funeral home directory, twenty-one Funeral Consumers Alliance affiliate price surveys, the Green Burial Council, Wikidata and OpenStreetMap. A home is shown as trading and corroborated only when its state board records it active or when two of those sources independently carry it. Two listings from the same source is not corroboration, and a record that reaches only that bar is labelled as carried by one source.
Can a funeral home pay to appear higher?
No. Homes are ordered by whether we hold a price for them and then alphabetically, never by payment. There is no charge to be listed, corrected or removed, and there never will be for a home correcting its own entry. Any future paid tier will be disclosed here and will not change the order.
How old are the prices?
They vary, which is why every price on this site is shown with its age. Funeral Consumers Alliance survey figures carry the date the affiliate published them, and some are more than a decade old. Prices from directory sources that publish no date are labelled as recorded by us in September 2026. Under the FTC Funeral Rule any funeral home must quote you its current prices over the telephone, so treat every figure here as a starting point for that call.
A listing is wrong. How do I fix it?
Every page carries a correction link that reaches us directly, and every funeral home page has one at the top and the bottom. Send the correction, or send a current price list and we will replace what we hold. If you would rather show no prices at all, say so and we will remove them. There is no charge for any of that.
Is this every funeral home in the country?
It is every record we hold, and where the trading count falls short of the official one we say so on the state page. Each state page shows our trading count against the Census Bureau's establishment count for that state. California and Wisconsin sit near half, because their licensing boards publish nothing usable. Louisiana and Mississippi read above 100% because their boards licence branches and crematory authorities separately while the Census counts only businesses with paid employees.
Why are closed funeral homes listed at all?
Because "is this funeral home still open" is asked constantly, usually by someone holding a prepaid funeral contract or an old funeral card, and almost nothing on the web answers it. Each closed record shows the board's own status wording, the licence number, and the homes still trading in the same city. None of them appears in a price comparison, on a map, or in any count of funeral homes in a city.
Are funeral home email addresses published here?
No, and they will not be. The research behind this directory holds several thousand funeral home email addresses, gathered from the homes' own websites to contact them about their own listings. Publishing that as a list would hand it to every spammer who found it. Business phone numbers are published because the businesses publish them themselves; email addresses are not.
